Inflation Relief Rebate 2025: How to Get Your $400 Stimulus Check

With inflation continuing to push prices higher and household budgets tighter, the state of New York is taking direct action to ease the burden.

Governor Kathy Hochul has confirmed that the long-awaited New York stimulus payments are officially approved—and the first checks are already on their way.

Part of the recently finalized Fiscal Year 2026 Budget, the Inflation Relief Rebate will deliver up to $400 per family in cash assistance to help offset the impact of rising costs and government-driven revenue surpluses tied to inflation.

What’s in the New York Inflation Relief Package?

Governor Hochul’s administration has secured a $2 billion fund for inflation rebates aimed at providing direct payments to over 8 million residents.

According to state officials, these rebates are being financed through excess sales tax revenue—a direct result of higher consumer prices and increased inflation-driven spending across the state.

Prices are surging. Tariffs are piling on. But you're not out of options—see how you can get help now.

Who Qualifies for the New York Stimulus Payment?

While earlier versions of the proposal suggested checks of $500 for families and $300 for individuals, the final approved amounts are:

  • Up to $400 per family

  • Eligibility includes:

    • Families earning less than $300,000/year

    • Individual taxpayers earning less than $150,000/year

These payments are not taxable and will be distributed automatically to eligible residents based on 2024 tax filings.

A Budget With No New Taxes, But New Relief

Governor Hochul emphasized that the $254 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2026 delivers meaningful support without increasing state income or business taxes.

This includes the inflation rebate checks, expanded education funding, and infrastructure investments—all while addressing the cost-of-living pressures hitting New York households.

As tariffs, rising energy bills, and ongoing inflation continue to stretch wallets, the New York stimulus payment offers some timely breathing room.

With up to $400 per family on the way, many New Yorkers may find it just a little easier to keep up with rising prices on groceries, utilities, and rent.

Be sure to check your most recent tax filings and keep an eye on your mailbox or direct deposit this spring—relief may already be on the way.
